SCALING UP ENGAGED RESEARCH

THE SOCIAL ECONOMY PERSPECTIVE

The RISE consortium is very proud to present their publication: Scaling up Engaged Research - The Social Economy Perspective

This publication is the culmination of RISE: Engaged Research in the Social Economy, a landmark initiative bringing together the social economy and the research sector to enable more socially impactful research and innovation.

RISE is built on a simple but powerful premise: that we need to level the playing field between researchers and the social economy. Charities, community groups, associations, and social enterprises have a vital role to play in shaping research that matters, but only if they have the skills, capacity, and support to engage as equal partners. Research done with communities, rather than for communities, produces better outcomes. That is what engaged research means in practice, and that is what we aimed to do with RISE.

RISE is the first initiative of its kind to focus exclusively on building social economy capacity for engaged research. Until now, most supports were aimed at academics, but RISE takes a significant step toward true, equal partnership between communities and academia, where each side has the skills and capacity to navigate research projects confidently.
